Tourists who have visited Kibale National Park are familiar with this place, as it is the starting point for many activities in the park. Kanyanchu Visitor Center is located 10 kilometers from the Isunga park offices and 3.5 kilometers from Fort Portal town. It is accessed via the tarmac Fort Portal–Kamwenge road.
The main activity conducted at Kanyanchu Visitor Center is chimpanzee trekking. The trekking starts at this same location, and after a short briefing, you enter the forest to search for chimpanzees.
After your chimpanzee trekking adventure, a fantastic place to relax and enjoy stunning crater lake views, especially suitable for families, is Crater Safari Lodge.
Some may be seen feeding their young ones, while others may be hunting. Since the trek starts early in the cool morning, you are advised to pack a jacket or sweater to keep warm in the tropical rain-forest.
At the center, your passport will be checked to confirm that you are eligible for the activity and that you have paid for the permit.
There are two chimpanzee trekking sessions in the park. The morning session starts at 8:00 a.m., and the afternoon session starts at 2:00 p.m. Each trek lasts between two to four hours, including one hour spent watching and taking photos of the chimpanzees as they go about their daily activities.
