Exploring Kibale National Park in November – Tips & Activities

Before booking your Kibale tour, note that November is one of the months with the heaviest rainfall, which makes the park muddy.

However, this should not stop you from visiting, since it does not rain the whole day. With time, the rain stops and you can continue with your activities.

When out in the field, make sure to stay away from trees because heavy rains may come with lightning and thunder.

Talk to your personal doctor to check if you will be able to handle the rain and cold. If not, it is better to stay at home and wait for January.

Carry a first aid kit along with your prescribed medicine. The kit should have the tools needed for dressing wounds. These include sterile eye dressings, sterile wound dressings, sterile pads, and waterproof plasters.

Other items in the kit include fabric and plastic plasters for small cuts and grazes. These can be clear plasters, blue catering plasters, or gel blister plasters.

There should also be bandages, such as:

  • Roller bandages used to support injured joints and reduce swelling
  • Triangular bandages used to cover large wounds
  • Tubular bandages mainly used for supporting joints like elbows or knees

Disposable gloves should be included to protect you from infections and to help when dressing wounds. Cleaning wipes are used to clean the skin around the wound. Adhesive tape is used to hold dressings in place.

Scissors are needed to cut bandages, and pins or clips help fasten the ends of the bandages. An aluminum blanket is useful in emergencies to help keep the body warm.

A first aid kit is very important because Kibale is in a remote area, far from health centers.

Road transport is the only way to reach the park since there are no airstrips in the area. If you choose to use air transport because of time, you will land in Kasese and connect to Kibale by road.
