The campfire shines brightest when you enjoy the peaceful camping sites in Kibale, such as Kibale Forest Camp, located near the famous Kibale National Park, the home of primates.
The camp is 12 kilometers from Kanyanchu Visitor Centre. The southern area of the park offers beautiful views of Magombe Swamp and the well-known Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, making the visitors’ stay even more enjoyable within the evergreen forest.
Since it takes only 10 minutes to drive to Kanyanchu Visitor Centre, you can easily enjoy nature or go primate trekking to spot colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, butterflies, and birds. The services at the campsite are good, including ten well-designed tents and a grass-thatched restaurant that adds a nice artistic touch.
There are also budget-friendly safari tents that are not self-contained but are well arranged with good beds, a power outlet, and a bedside table. The seven tents share a bathroom block with showers and flushing toilets.
Other camping sites in and around Kibale include Little Elephant Camp, Eco Lodge Campsite, and Hornbill Cave Camp, among others. You can bring your own camping tent or rent one from the park.
If you want to go camping, you need a permit purchased from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Camping fees are around $15–$20 per person per night. You must follow the rules and regulations at the campsite.
For example, you are not allowed to move without a guide, and littering is not allowed because wild animals may eat the waste.
The park is always open to campers, but the best season is the dry season, which runs from June to September and December to February. Make sure to pack sweaters because the nights are cold. Also pack snacks, water bottles, long-sleeved shirts and trousers, insect repellent, and other needed items.
You can also enjoy other activities while camping, such as nature walks to see wild animals, community visits, stargazing, bird watching, and more.
