Rules are set to ensure the safety of the wild species in Kibale National Park, including animals, birds, insects, butterflies, and primates. Each area of the park has its own rules that you must follow.
- During chimpanzee trekking, travelers with contagious diseases like flu or cough are not allowed to join. This is because chimpanzees share 98–99% of human DNA, which means they can catch human diseases.
- Also, visitors under 15 years of age are not allowed, as children are more likely to get flu and cough. Young children may also have trouble following the ranger’s instructions, which can create danger for the whole group. There have been reports of chimpanzees attacking humans, so every step must be careful and well-guided.
- Only six people are allowed per trek to avoid crowding. To avoid scaring the chimpanzees, stay in a group and keep quiet. Just observe and enjoy your time with these close relatives of humans.
- Even though chimpanzees may act like humans, never try to mimic them. Their way of communication is different and trying to copy them may cause them to become aggressive.
- Cleanliness in the forest is very important. If you feel the need to urinate or defecate, you must go off the trail, dig a hole 30 cm deep, and bury your waste properly.
- Moving to other activities like bird watching, nature walks, and camping, silence is also very important. It helps avoid scaring animals, especially birds.
- Feeding animals is not allowed, because some animals eat only certain types of food, and giving them the wrong food may harm them.
- Before entering the park, you must have a permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority, which will be checked at any park gate.
- To enjoy your adventure fully, bring a camera without a flash to avoid scaring sensitive animals.
- Wear earth-colored clothes to avoid attracting insects, and use a hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.
Endeavor to follow all rules and regulations for a safe and enjoyable stay at Kibale National Park.
