Full 4-Day Kibale Chimpanzee Trek, Bigodi Wetland & Amabere Caves Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
Begin your journey to Kibale Forest National Park after being picked up from the airport or hotel. During the drive, your guide will brief you about the trip. You will arrive in Fort Portal around noon and stop for lunch. By evening, proceed to your booked lodge in the park. Have dinner and rest.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Wetland Tour
Start the second day of your trip with an early breakfast. Go to the park offices for a briefing before being grouped into teams of eight. Begin your chimpanzee trek in Kibale Forest, led by a ranger, with help from local trackers who are already inside the forest.
You are likely to find the chimpanzees quickly in their natural home as they feed and play. You will spend one hour with them as you watch their daily activities. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch.
After lunch, your driver guide will take you to Bigodi, where a local guide will lead your wetland walk. As you move through the wetland, you will see many birds and primates like colobus and vervet monkeys that may appear along the path. In the evening, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Amabere G’anyinamwiru Caves & Hike to the Crater Lakes
After breakfast and checking out of the lodge, drive from Kibale Forest to Fort Portal to explore the Amabere G’anyinamwiru caves. A local guide will welcome you and share the stories behind these caves. Hidden under the forest canopy, the caves offer a peaceful and beautiful setting. They are important to the history and culture of the Batooro people.
Amabere G’anyinamwiru means “the breasts of Nyinamwiru.” According to old stories, King Bukuku of the Batembuzi dynasty cut off his daughter’s breasts because she refused to marry the man he had chosen for her. It is said that her breasts were placed in these caves and still drip what is believed to be milk.
After the cave visit, have lunch in Fort Portal. In the afternoon, go for a hike to explore the crater lakes. Take photos and enjoy the area before checking into your hotel in Fort Portal for dinner and rest.
Day 4: Departure to Kampala/Entebbe International Airport
On the last day of your 4-day trip, have breakfast and check out of your hotel. Begin your journey back to Kampala. You will stop for lunch along the way. In the evening, arrive at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight back home.
