Kyaninga Lodge is a vision of peace and comfort brought to life by an Englishman named Steve Williams. One day, he stood on the edge of the ancient crater lake at Kyaninga and came up with a special idea, which grew over time into one of the best luxury lodges in the area.
Kyaninga Lodge started from nothing and opened in 2010. Local workers were used, and they were trained for two years to learn the skills needed for the construction.
The work took six years to finish. No cranes or heavy machines were used to keep the area quiet and protect nature. All materials were carried by hand, and more than 130 people were needed to complete the work.
To keep the natural feel, only local materials were used during construction. Wood was collected from nearby communities. The stone pillars were made from volcanic rock found around the crater.
Timber, including eucalyptus and Elgon olive, was used to create the beautiful structures. The grass for the roofs came from Semliki, helping the lodge blend with the land. Even today, the lodge uses solar power.
More efforts were made by bringing in experts from Europe to teach the local people practical skills like welding, carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and thatching. These skills not only helped build the lodge but also gave the workers a way to earn money in other places.
Relax in comfort as you visit the main building, which is the heart of the lodge. It has a restaurant and two raised galleries. Meals can be enjoyed inside or outside on the terrace, where you can look out over the lake.
The lodge also has a bar with a fireplace that is usually lit at sunset, as the wind spreads the natural scents of the land.
The main building is carefully arranged, with every part designed to reflect African stories. The two decks are placed high enough that even children can see birds down the slope. If you want to sit and rest, there are soft loungers placed near the swimming pool, which has steps made from local volcanic rock.
Feel fresh again as you enjoy spa treatments—a special experience for the soul.
Be pampered in luxury and comfort at Kyaninga Lodge.
Another exceptional lodge located in the picturesque crater lakes region of Fort Portal, offering a peaceful and culturally rich experience, is Papaya Lake Lodge.
