Filming in Kibale National Park – Permits, Guidelines & Procedures

In order for tourists to keep unforgettable memories, they have to store them somewhere. That is why most of them prefer filming while on their booked Uganda tour in Kibale National Park.

The filming journey starts with getting a permit and seeking permission from the authorities. If permission is granted, you will be given press accreditation issued by the Uganda Media Council and a location film permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority.

During the press accreditation process, there is a procedure to follow as an individual or a crew member. The first step is filling the mandatory FORM G and attaching scanned copies of your passport and current passport-sized photos. This process takes about two to three working days to be turned into a media card.

Each member of the crew must follow this procedure, including the team leader, who is also required to send a detailed write-up of the film you plan to shoot in Uganda.

After all this is done, the film crew service will submit the information to the Uganda Media Council for approval. If it is approved, the council will contact you and let you know.

The next step is securing your location permit, which allows you to carry out filming in Kibale National Park. This permit is obtained from the Uganda Wildlife Authority, the department responsible for managing national parks in Uganda.

They charge a 40% filming fee for any activity you plan to do, along with a 10% monitoring fee. After payment, the Uganda Wildlife Authority will prepare a filming agreement between you and them. You must sign it if you agree to the terms stated.

A certain fee is charged for these permits. For press accreditation, a fee of US$175 is charged per person for a period not exceeding 30 days. If you go beyond these days, you must pay US$225 per person (for six months). For two years, a journalist is required to pay US$325 per person.

Before applying to the Uganda Wildlife Authority, make sure to send all your enquiries to the communication headquarters. It is advised to book with a good tour company.

Capturing your safari moments is essential, and you can find comprehensive advice on how to make the most of your visual journey on our dedicated photography page.

Please note that the Uganda Wildlife Authority allows an initial discussion and site visit with filmmakers to go over the filming plans and decide early on what may or may not be allowed.

Make sure to follow all the rules and regulations during your filming adventure in Kibale for a comfortable stay.
