Sebitoli Wetland Uganda – Nature Walks & Bird-watching in Kibale

Located in the northern region of Kibale Forest National Park, Sebitoli Wetlands is a peaceful place for you to visit. It is still one of Kibale’s best-kept secrets. This wetland is very easy to reach, being only a few kilometers from the Fort Portal-Kampala road. Although it receives fewer tourists, Sebitoli offers a more personal and closer experience with nature than most other wetlands in the area.

Sebitoli was gazetted in 2002 as a way to reduce the number of visitors putting pressure on the park’s Kanyanchu area. With one main exception — chimpanzee tracking is not done at Sebitoli — you can enjoy a variety of activities here that are similar to those at Kanyanchu. Its easy access makes up for the lack of chimpanzee tracking, making it a good place for day trips from Fort Portal. Sebitoli’s guided forest walks are a nice way to see the park’s different animals. As the monkeys swing through the trees, keep your eyes open for Vervet, blue, black-and-white, and red colobus monkeys.

There is also a large number of birds, with an ever-growing checklist that includes 236 species. Although chimpanzees live nearby, they are not used to being tracked here.

Kibale Forest National Park, where the Sebitoli Wetland is located, welcomes visitors all year round and offers special experiences in every season. There are two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season.

Many travelers prefer the dry season, which usually comes from June to September and December to February, because of the nice weather. The rainy season, which runs from March to May and October to November, brings a lot of rain. Although some people may not like the wet season, birdwatchers enjoy it because the park has many birds during this time.
